Community Meeting on Peace Park Project

Mount Rainier and Little Friends for Peace invite you to a neighborhood meeting to give input on a Peace Park project for Spring Park on January 6, 2020.

Date: January 6, 2020
Time: 7-8:30pm
Venue: St. John’s Church located at the intersection of 34th Street between Shepherd and Rainier Ave. (301) 927-1156
This location is one block from the park to maximize attendance of those who live closest to the park.

Located at the corner of 33rd St. and Shepherd, Spring Park has been a little used space since it was gifted to the city in the early 1900s. This is also the site of the city’s historic spring from which many residents used to get water until the mid 1900s.

The City Council approved entering into a partnership with Little Friends for Peace to activate this space for the community.

We are proud to announce that our partnership has received a sum of $50,000 from the Prince George’s County Redevelopment Authority towards creating a Peace Park at this location.  The University of Maryland’s Landscape Architecture Program will be designing the project and will be present at the meeting to hear community input. This is the same group that has received community input and re-designed Memorial Park and its environs on Rhode Island Avenue.

Next community meeting is TBA in February 2020.
